AC7.4 Monitor the installation of items within a new location
Performance Required
This will involve:
- Confirming the identity of the items being installed and checking their condition
- Identifying and obtaining the resources necessary to install the items
- Checking the location and installation meet the specification
- Checking the items are placed in the correct locations or with the appropriate person
- Taking appropriate action if the location or installation is unsuitable
- Recording accurately the information relating to the installation and passing it to the appropriate people speedily
- Monitoring and recording the environmental conditions necessary to maintain the condition of the items
- Maintaining the security of the items at all times using appropriate measures

- Identify similar articles
- Assess items ideal conditions in terms of their composition
- Monitor environmental conditions
- Maintain the security of the object
You need to know about:
Installation Procedures:
- The acquisition or loan procedures of the receiving organisation
- The resources necessary to install them
Location requirements:
- Security and protection for fire, theft, environment, etc
- Access and availability of installation site to audience/ clients/ curators/ researchers/ the public/authorities
- The optimum environmental conditions to keep the items in their present condition
- Identifying environmental features and the means of monitoring them
- What to do if the location or installation is unsuitable
Required Skills
You should demonstrate:
- Identification and composition analysis
- Measuring and assessing conditions
Evidence Required
You should provide evidence that you can monitor the installation of items within a new location
The candidate should be questioned, based upon the documentation provided, to explore how they
- understand and apply the procedures for monitoring the installation of items within a new location
Evidence Rules
- The candidate should produce evidence of transferring both stable and unstable items on at least two contrasting sites
