Archaeology Training Forum

TORC was initiated by, and is an activity of, the ATF. The ATF is a delegate body which represents all those organisations which have an interest in the issues of training and career development within archaeology. It was constituted in 1998 to review the present provision of training in archaeology and to co-ordinate future strategies to meet the profession's training needs. Members of the forum include the Council for British Archaeology, SCACE (the Standing Committee of Archaeology in Continuing Education, SCFA (the Standing Committee for Archaeology), the IFA (the Institute of Field Archaeologists), English Heritage, SCAUM (the Standing Conference of Archaeological Unit Mangers), and ALGAO (the Association of Local Government Archaeological Officers).

English Heritage

English Heritage provides support for TORC, and is the Government's lead body for the historic environment in England. EH is committed to the promotion of high professional standards in archaeology and conservation and to the development of career structures and minimum standards of employment. Training is a vital element in achieving these goals.

Council for British Archaeology

TORC is operated and hosted by the Council for British Archaeology. The CBA works to promote the study and safeguarding of Britain's historic environment, to provide a forum for archaeological opinion, and to improve public interest in, and knowledge of, Britain's past. The CBA supports activities of the ATF as a means of strengthening the archaeological discipline, including both the paid and voluntary sectors, in order to improve the study and safeguarding of Britain's past.
